Always the bride's maid no more, Taj Burrow beat Kelly Slater in the Billabong Pro finals held at Jeffery's Bay, South Africa. For years, Taj has been touted as the next big thing, which has held true for everything but a world title. However, this win puts him in contention just behind ratings leader Mick Fanning. Burrow has always been a force in small to medium surf but has been working to improve his technique in the big stuff. The final leg of the title race runs right through the massive wave wonderland of the North Shore, Hawaii. This will give him a chance to prove his mettle against the likes of Fanning, Slater, and Andy Irons (all of whom have a shot at winning the title).
